How often should I visit the dentist?
Most patients benefit from dental visits every six months, but your individual needs may vary. Dr. Hickson may recommend more frequent visits (every 3-4 months) if you have gum disease, a history of cavities, or other risk factors. Regular checkups allow us to catch problems early when they're easier and less expensive to treat. We'll create a personalized schedule based on your unique oral health needs.
Do I really need to floss everyday?
Yes, brushing alone only cleans about 60% of your tooth surfaces, missing the critical areas between teeth where cavities and gum disease often start. Flossing removes plaque and food particles from these tight spaces that your toothbrush can't reach. Daily flossing significantly reduces your risk of cavities between teeth and helps prevent gum disease. Water flossers can be effective alternatives for some patients, but traditional floss remains the gold standard.
What should I do if I have a dental emergency?
Call our office immediately. We prioritize dental emergencies and will do our best to see you the same day. For after-hours emergencies, follow the instructions on our voicemail for urgent care options. **If you experience trauma to your face or head that causes loss of consciousness, headache, dizziness, or nausea/vomiting - seek immediate medical treatment at an emergency room prior to addressing your dental trauma**
